Poor Damayanti

This is a bill board I saw in Vengoor, Kerala, looks like a jewellery advertisement. The language is Malayalam. The face on the left must be a fashion model or a film actress, paid very well to pose for this commercial. The standing figure to the far right half diffused, half covered by Malayalam text is the most beautiful tall and elegant Hamsa Damayanthi. Its a famous painting of Raja Ravi Varma (1848-1906), please don't call her, that is not Damayanthi's mobile number, poor thing is dead.

The Ad Agency had the audasity to reverse the painting to make it unrecognisable ?? perhaps not. The painting is far too famous to go un noticed. They made it more insulting by covering her with the ugly text message or address of the company. This is the most insensitive way of promoting the product. Here to the right is the original image.

Poor Damayanthi is not alive to sue these guys.

Blunt Knife.

  6. It's sad that they didn't use their imagination to come up with something new.

  7. Why bother? Why do you clutter your mind with this stuff? There is so much suffering around you to worry about a woman who had a good life and who is already in heaven.

  9. Patty, yes its a short cut. This has been my favourite painting since my childhood, long before I came to know of renaissance and impressionist artists

  10. Angel, wherefore art thou ?

Yea it bothers me Angel, suffering is not new, its been around since the day one. Since the moment God said ' Let there be light' and I said ' common switch it off, its hurting my eyes. Angel I think the switch came before the light.

  11. Son of Solomon, I know how you feel, Its not easy talking to a father who had 700 wives. SEVEN HUNDRED ?? yes Seven hundred. Thats vanity. I wonder if he ever got time to eat. An audience of 700 wives is enough to make him a rock star. Did he come out with any albums ?

  12. this is a bit like remixes in music. it offends some while others thrive on it, however briefly.
i see a remarkable similarity between the two models.

  13. i spoke to arya manga, a manga spoke in malayalam and i did not make the mistake of speaking the same.
i explained to her that there is a complaint about the inappropriate use of dhamayanthi in their ads and we would appreciate if they would stop it.
she seem to have understood my message and said ... ook !

  14. Yes Chinna, the remix of old songs is a real pain and an insult to the composer. I just don't understand how these guys go scotfree.
