It was good to see women's participation, they were pretty serious, not just a show piece, equally well sponsored and good prize money, don't know how much, lots of other prizes. I was surprised to see some European and American participants, perpahs been there months in advance preparing for the big day in torrential rain.
There were 3 boats, They were required to race for half a
kilometer.
The race took place far from where I was standing, So could not take pictures of the race.
The team with Europeans and Americans won the race, They were cheered by the crowd as they went on a victory lap.
Some chap applauding brought his hand in front of the lens.

ReplyDeletehehe, i bet the European/American women must be top class white-water rafters in their countries :D and also, Poms, maybe it's because Western women are more physically fit than our Indian women. That's cuz Indian women hardly get any outdoor physical activity to perform; their lives are just embroiled in looking after their home and family. I love the team spirit though; lovely pics ! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteYes it was Frida, every one was having a party, it was like boat race day in England as described by PG Wodehouse, Wooster steals a policeman's helmet. Cops were all over but they were not spoiling the party.
ReplyDeleteThats true sweet Booey! I don't know when women's participation started perhaps not very long ago, have to ask e2dees. I was happy to see them rowing away, there were only 3 boats. Hope it will encourage other women to participate. It is an expensive affair. The government should take interest.
